Why I’m Bringing The Legacy Series to Kickstarter

Why I’m Bringing The Legacy Series to Kickstarter
There’s a moment I keep coming back to. I was walking my daughter to the car after a hard weekend, and I realized she wasn’t just listening to what I said — she was watching how I handled things. That’s when it hit me: healing was never going to be a private project. She was learning from it, whether I meant to teach her anything or not.
That moment is where The Legacy Series really began.
The Story Behind the Story
I’ve spent the last several years writing books about divorce recovery and co-parenting — Legacy of Avoidance, Legacy of Letting Go, and Legacy of Co-Parenting — because I lived the questions before I ever tried to answer them. I lost my father. Not long after, my marriage ended. And I found myself rebuilding from the ground up, as a single mom, trying to figure out how to make our home emotionally safe even though everything around us had changed.
The nonfiction books came from that work directly — the frameworks, the research, the practical tools I now use with coaching clients navigating their own separation and divorce. But somewhere along the way, I realized there was another story that wanted to be told, and it wasn’t going to fit inside a workbook or a guided journal.
It needed to be fiction.
Why Fiction, Why Now
The nonfiction Legacy Series answers the question “how do I heal?” The fiction series asks a quieter question: what happens to the stories we never talk about?
Every family carries something unspoken — a silence passed down instead of a conversation, a pattern inherited without anyone choosing it. I wanted to write a story about a woman rebuilding after loss, a mother learning to let go of old grief, and a family slowly discovering that the things we don’t say shape us just as much as the things we do. It’s the kind of book I needed to read during my own healing and couldn’t quite find.
This is a story for anyone who has ever felt like they were carrying something they didn’t ask to inherit — and wondered if it could be rewritten.
Why Kickstarter
I could have queried this the traditional way and waited to see what happened. Instead, I wanted to bring readers into the process from the very beginning — not as an audience receiving a finished product, but as part of making it real.
Every Kickstarter backer isn’t just pre-ordering a book. They’re saying that stories about healing, about rebuilding, about the quiet inherited weight so many of us carry — these stories matter enough to help bring into the world. That feels like the right way to launch something this personal.
What This Means for Readers
If you’ve read the nonfiction Legacy Series, this fiction companion picks up the same emotional thread in a different form — the same belief that healing isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being conscious. If you’re new to my work, this is a good place to start: a story built for anyone healing from loss, rebuilding after divorce, or untangling the avoidant attachment patterns so many of us learned long before we had words for them.
This is a book for people who are learning to stay when love feels unsafe, for people rebuilding a life they didn’t plan for, and for anyone ready to write a different story than the one they inherited.
